The textbook combines the design and construction of radial and axial fans with the problem of noise development and its reduction already in the fan development stage. The aim is to describe selected, easily applicable methods of aerodynamic design and noise prediction and to show their physical principles. Exercises with possible solutions facilitate understanding. The completely revised and expanded edition now also contains information on the selection of fans for a given task, on simulation-based optimization methods for the fan design and on psychoacoustic methods with which the quality of fan noise can be measured.

The content

Selection of a fan, characteristics, key figures - design operating parameters, blade grilles, kinematics, efficiency - design of radial fans - design of axial fans - sound generation and propagation - noise calculation methods - psychoacoustic evaluation of fan noise - constructive noise reduction measures - numerical and experimental methods, simulation-based optimization - solutions to exercise

The target groups

  • Development engineers in the field of fan construction, ventilation technology, device and plant construction
  • Mechanical engineering students at colleges and universities
